Plan Ahead for the Perfect Prom Night With This Checklist
Prom is an exciting night for all high school students. Spending a special evening eating, chatting, and dancing the night away with friends and dates is unforgettable. However, before we get to that special night, we must plan. You can plan ahead for the perfect prom night with this checklist that starts three months in advance.
Three Months Before: Go Dress Shopping
Everyone wants to look their best at prom. To ensure that you find the best dress and have time for alterations and accessory shopping, you should buy your dress at least three months in advance. Some people buy their dresses even earlier to give themselves more wiggle room with their schedule. While you can go shopping closer to prom night, you may feel stressed as you try to get everything together at the last minute.
Six Weeks Before: Book Professionals and Make Reservations
After you know what you’re going to wear, you can book professional appointments and dinner reservations. Some people do their hair and makeup at home and eat dinner at home as well. Staying home is more affordable and often more comfortable. However, if you want your hair and makeup done professionally and to eat at a good restaurant, then you will need to book everything at least six weeks in advance. Also, if you want professional pictures the night of prom, you should also book a photographer around six weeks in advance.
Two Weeks Before: Order Flowers
Boutonnieres and corsages are a standard part of most prom experiences. Most people order flowers with ribbons that match or coordinate with the prom dress. To give the florist plenty of time to gather and arrange the right flowers and ribbons, order your arrangements at least two weeks before prom night. Pick them up the night before or morning of, and keep them refrigerated until it’s time to put them on.
One Week Before: Break Your Shoes In
Everything starts to fall into place the week before prom. To help ensure the special night goes off without a hitch, break in your shoes. Even if you’ve worn them to previous dances or special events, test them out the week before prom. You don’t want to end up with blisters from new or rarely worn shoes. Blisters will make it harder to dance and will give you a painful souvenir days after the special night.
The Night Of: Pack Your Bag
The day of prom is exciting, as you finally get your hair and makeup done and put on your dress. But before you rush out the door for pictures and dinner, pack a bag with everything you might need for the night. You should include a fully charged cell phone, wallet with emergency cash and your ID, keys, bobby pins, deodorant, something to freshen your breath, bandages, and menstrual supplies. You never know what you may need as the night wears on.
